Five local environmental initiatives across the country have been recognised for their contribution to sustainable living, by being shortlisted for this year's Future Friendly Awards, announced on Thursday 26th February.

The Future Friendly Awards are a national initiative that aims to reward local ‘green heroes’ who have committed themselves to sustainable living, and inspired others to do the same. The judging panel included representatives from three of Britain’s top environmental organisations - Energy Saving Trust, Waste Watch and Waterwise – as well as other experts in sustainability.

The winner will receive a £20,000 bursary to help theontinue the good work they are doing. The public can vote for their favourite project at
